Brunei Team from UBD in Top 20 at Shell Ecomarathon in Battery-electric concept
The eighth prototype vehicle raced since 2012
Seeking to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Affordable and Clean Energy, the Shell Eco-marathon competition is a global academic programme that gathers Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) students from around the world to design, build and drive some of the most energy-efficient vehicles.
The team from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) competed against 41 teams in the battery-electric concept and secured the 17th place, achieving an efficiency record of 103km per kilowatt-hour. The first team from Indonesia achieved 749km per kilowatt-hour. The UBD team is also the first Brunei team to pass the technical inspection at the first attempt.
The Universiti Brunei Darussalam team, Perkasa Darussalam includes notable members from Faculty of Integrated Technologies, Team supervisor Pengiran Aderus PengiranTengah, Team leader Muhamad Ahmad Hasyer Sulong, First driver Amal Bazilah Karim and Second driver Amal Basirah Karim as well as their tremendous engineering team.
Mr Chong Kim Onn from School of Digital Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam has been actively mentoring the team in preparation for the competition. Previously, UBD won the 3rd place in the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Cell Category at SEM Asia 2015.
This year, the Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East 2023 was held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Indonesia with the gathering of students in 75 teams from 13 countries across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
